  • Longest Blog Ever

Since first signing up I have definitely been slacking in the blog area...sorry 'bout that! So I'll try to get you up to speed on the happenings in the Ziegler household.

The second w eekend of December I decided that I was in the mood to do some baking and was hoping it'd help with my non-Christmas feeling sp irit. So I baked and I baked and I baked. I made chocolate chip cookie dough and put it in the freezer for a later date or unexpected guests, etc. I doubled a peanut butter cookie recipe and put half of that in the freezer and then made peanut butter kisses. I make snickerdoodles, banana bread, chocolate chip coffee cake, regular fudge and a candy bar fudge, white chocolate covered pretzels, oreo balls, and more banana bread. I attempted to make 2 pumpkin rolls and they both became pumpkin blobs as they decided not to remove themselves from my tea towels. My trash can enjoyed them immensely and I tried not to cry in my frustration. However, Chad was there to laugh at me so I got over it and I divided and packaged everything up and gave it all away! I wish I had taken pictures of everything, especially the giant mess I made of powdered sugar - it was everywhere! THANKFULLY I am married to the most amazing man who cleaned it all up...every nook and cranny

I think it must have been Jesus giving me the desire to bake because I gave it all away on Saturday and Sunday and then of course the big ice storm hit and the power went out on Monday. Everyone texted to let me know they were surviving on my goodies...hahaha!

Here are my pics from the ice storm. We lost power for 4 days and "moved" to Chad's parents house where they had a generator hooked up and a fire roaring at all times.

Neeless to say, we are all thankful for power and baking.

Chad and I had to work feverishly to get our guest bedroom furniture finished before our first guests, Tate and Chelsea, arrived for Christmas! I was given my great-grandmothers (I think) 1950's bedroom set: full size bed frame, dresser, and vanity. It was a blonde oak. I decided I wanted to black and white crackle it so I painted it all black, my parents moved to Tulsa and the furniture moved to my grandparents grainery. Almost four years later it's still sitting there and still painted black with some additional scratches...and by scratches I mean character. Right? Anyway, we had one week after the storm to complete our tranformation. We worked like dogs painting, sanding, distressing, more painting, crackling in various places, and even more painting finishing with a nice slight sheen of a glaze just in time to move it all in and drive to the airport. I'll have to take some pictures so you can see the final product. We are definitely proud of our hard work and thinks it makes a wonderful addition to our home! Now you really can come and stay with us

We had a wonderful Christmas with our Florida grandparents flying up and Tate Chelsea flying over from Tennessee and grandma Judith driving in from Sentinel. It was very fun to have our first real house guests. And of course Inca enjoyed all of the extra faces and attention and love she received from everyone. We went to a candlelight service and then headed to our house for snacks on Christmas Eve, we watched movies, went bowling, ate, opened gifts, the girls went to the movie and saw P.S.. I Love You (terribly emotional, but great), laughed a lot, told stories, ate some more, played Apples to Apples, Mad Gab, and Cranium, and just had fun!

And of course the very latest update on the Ziegler life is: the Cunninghams and the Zieglers gathered together for yet another successful meal and yes we ate our blackeyed peas yesterday. Oh, except Afton, she refused and we didn't want to force her and re-live any dinner table gagging excercises. Happy New Year everyone!
